This course will provide definitions and best practice approaching to respectful, appropriate and empathetic patient experiences within healthcare facilities. This course includes common definitions related to diversity and inclusion, as well as cultural awareness training to help build a foundation for recognizing the variations in patient care expectations, experiences and preferences. This course will equip learners to recognize bias, avoid generalizations and equip learners to be appropriately reactive to the care preferences expressed by patients and their families.

• Define common terminology related to diversity and inclusion.
• Identify how differences in identity may impact healthcare considerations.
• Identify how to show sensitivity in patient engagement.
• Explain how lack of understanding can impact care experience.
• Identify different ways to demonstrate respect.
