2026 Joint Commission National Performance Goals for Hospitals

Effective January 1, 2026, the National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) were replaced by the National Performance Goals (NPGs), a new chapter that organizes Joint Commission requirements into clear, measurable performance priorities. NPGs outline 14 high-priority, measurable topics designed to help organizations improve patient safety, quality of care, and overall outcomes. The goals highlight requirements that exceed basic regulatory standards and reflect the most pressing challenges faced by today's healthcare organizations.
